It’s been a difficult year for the Lake Gaston Association — fighting off rising waters and invasive hydrilla — but with those two victories cleared, members have looked toward 2017.

Early voting for the Nov. 8 General Election begins today (Thursday) throughout the Roanoke-Chowan region. Lake Gaston Community Center will be open on Oct. 27-29 from 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m., Oct. 31-Nov. 4 from 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m., and Nov. 5 from 8 a.m. – 1 p.m.


The Lake Gaston Association will hold their next monthly meeting on Nov. 2 at 9:30 a.m. at the Lake Gaston Baptist Church located on Hwy. 903, across from the Subway Restaurant.


Hurricane Matthew has left much of North Carolina damaged and flooded, and the same was seen in the Roanoke Valley.


On Saturday, much of North Carolina was under flash flood warnings as Hurricane Matthew worked its way up the East Coast.

Heavy rains have fallen over much of the Lake Gaston and Kerr Lake area. As a result both Kerr Lake and Lake Gaston have risen significantly. Dominion Power says the lake level on Gaston rose to about 202 feet on Monday and is expected to fall slowly over the next several days.
