Projects completing, ongoing and starting

Date Updated:
Wednesday, September 25, 2013

There’s never a dull moment at the LGA for the directors and the LGA office. As one project closes, an ongoing project can be producing results, and another project can be starting. September was one of those months for all of those types of projects. The testing of Lake Gaston for E.coli ran from April to August and the results of those tests were
produced in September. 20 points in coves and creeks were tested by volunteers with E.coli testing kits. The results can be seen in our October/November 2013 Bulletin.

Volunteers needed for Aquatic Vegetation Survey

I’ve been with the Lake Gaston Association (LGA) eight years now. My anniversary date is July 1. When I started, I never fully understood the type of activities the LGA directors got involved with through the committees we have. The committees have changed a little over the years since 1989, but still all associated with the well being of Lake Gaston. Today’s committees are Lake Environment; Public Safety, Government Relations, Marketing & Membership, and Lake Clean-Up.

Damage reports continue to roll in

Late May thru late June has been a busy time for us keeping our members informed by email of the rise and fall of the water level at Lake Gaston. Every year between March 1 and June 15 we know that the water level can go up to 201 ft., a foot higher than the norm to support fish spawning flows downstream in the Roanoke River. And while we have had an unusual amount of rain during May and June, for homeowners on the lake, it does seem like the control of the rising & falling levels could have been handled better.

Spring has sprung?

Date Updated:
Friday, March 15, 2013

Last Thursday, the first day of Spring, I was sitting listening to a presentation at the LGA’s Five County Forum, when somebody next to me whispered, “It’s snowing!” “Snowing?” I mouthed, as I turned towards the window. It was snowing, in blizzard mode. It did remind me that some years ago, we did have snow at the Lake on April 9 that had laid quite thickly.
