Authorities found the body of missing Enfield boater John Allen Sutton, 31, early Saturday morning about 150 yards from Gaston Dam. Divers and boaters have been searching for Sutton’s body since the April 25th incident at Roanoke Rapids Lake, just downriver from Lake Gaston.
Aquatic weed watchers around Lake Gaston have their eyes peeled for a literal rising threat. Lyngbya, a blue green algae ,has been spotted and plotted at volunteer survey points during the Lake Gaston Associations annual aquatic plants survey in increasing numbers.
Authorities are looking for a missing boater after his boat ran into a concrete pilling near the Gaston Dam in Halifax County. State Wildlife Resources Commission Sgt. Glen Hatcher told the Daily Herald of Roanoke Rapids that searchers aren't sure if 31-year-old John Sutton was still in his boat or had already fallen out when it struck the piling early Saturday morning.
